Polytechnic University and Assur Foundation Launch New STEM and Pre-University Development Workshops for High School Students

San Juan, Puerto Rico — 02/26/2025 — Universidad Politécnica de Puerto Rico in collaboration with the Azmat Assur Foundation, is pleased to announce an innovative Pre-University Development Workshop program, elevating its specialized summer camps for high school students in grades 10 to 12 who are interested in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The program aims to provide economic and academic support to outstanding young individuals wishing to pursue undergraduate studies in Puerto Rico.

The joint initiative of the University and the Assur Foundation presents a unique opportunity to empower youth passionate about knowledge and professional development in areas critical to technological and scientific advancement. These workshops are designed to guide students in their preparation for higher education, encouraging informed decision-making about their academic and professional futures. Selected students will receive financial support, access to specialized summer workshops, and mentorship programs to maximize their potential and achieve their academic goals.

The Assur Foundation, established by Ann Marie Assur in honor of visionary philanthropist Azmat Assur, is distinguished by its commitment to promoting educational equity and providing opportunities to the youth of Puerto Rico. With a focus on the transformative impact of education, the Foundation aspires to create a vibrant future where young people are key players in innovation and sustainable development.

“This program seeks to reduce the economic barriers faced by many promising students on their way to a quality education. Participants will have the opportunity to attend exclusive summer workshops, where they will receive specialized instruction, mentorship, and the motivation needed to excel in STEM areas,” stated Ernesto Vazquez Martinez, President of Polytechnic University.

This program will not only benefit students individually but will also contribute to positioning Puerto Rico as a global leader in science and technology. We are excited about the positive impact this program will have on our youth and the socio-economic development of the country.
